Business Strategy & Operations Consulting

Your business has grown.
The way it operates should grow with it.

Second Floor Strategy helps growing service businesses build the clarity, systems, and structure that take the work off the owner's plate, so the business runs on more than you and growth becomes sustainable.

The real constraint

Growth isn't the problem.

Most owners don't run out of ideas. They run out of capacity.

The business grows. The team grows. The decisions grow. Technology gets added, meetings multiply, problems get more complex, and eventually everything still runs through the owner.

At that point, working harder rarely helps. The business doesn't need more effort. It needs better structure.

The shift

What changes when the business works better.

Before

Everything depends on you. The same issues keep coming back. Technology isn't delivering what you expected. Your team waits for answers. Priorities compete. You react instead of lead.

After

Priorities are clear. Your team knows what comes next. Technology supports the work instead of adding to it. Processes repeat. The business becomes easier to run, and you get time, capacity, and confidence back.

How we start

Every business is different. The way we begin isn't.

We don't open with recommendations. We start by understanding how your business actually works. We observe, ask, listen, connect the patterns, and find what's really happening beneath the surface. Then we decide what changes.

Because the right solution starts with the right problem.

Our approach

Why it works

What makes Second Floor Strategy different.

Most consultants bring frameworks. Most operators bring experience. Second Floor Strategy brings both.

For 15+ years, Katterine Payer has built the operations behind growing companies and advised the leaders running them, scaling one company's operations from 25 to 175 properties, then advising 35+ organizations across the U.S., Mexico, and the Caribbean. Strategy and execution from the same person is rare, and it's the difference between a plan and a business that actually changes.

Next step

Ready to make your business easier to run?

If your business has grown but the way it operates hasn't kept pace, let's start with a conversation.

Approach

We diagnose before we prescribe.

Most businesses don't need more advice. They need someone willing to slow down long enough to understand what's actually happening. That's where every engagement begins.

We treat businesses as systems.

People. Processes. Technology. Data. Departments. Goals. Priorities. Each one shapes the others, so fixing one part in isolation rarely holds. We read the whole system before recommending what changes.

01

Diagnose

Every business has symptoms: missed deadlines, revenue pressure, bottlenecks, team friction, technology that isn't paying off. Our job is the cause, not the symptom.

02

Decide

Once we understand the business, we name what matters most. Not everything deserves attention first. Good strategy is knowing the order.

03

Build

Ideas don't create change; execution does. Together we build the systems, processes, documentation, scorecards, and operating rhythm your business actually runs on.

04

Measure

If you can't measure progress, you can't improve it. We set benchmarks that make decisions clearer over time.

05

Run

The goal isn't dependence on a consultant. It's a business that keeps running because the systems work.

About

About Second Floor Strategy

Second Floor Strategy was built on a simple belief: growing businesses shouldn't get harder to run.

As a business grows, many owners reach a point where the way they've always operated no longer supports what's next. They've hit a ceiling, not for lack of ambition, but because the business has outgrown its structure.

Building a second floor takes more than adding a room; it means strengthening the structure underneath. The same is true in business. Growth becomes sustainable when the systems beneath it get stronger.

Katterine Payer, founder of Second Floor Strategy

Meet Katterine

Katterine Payer is the founder of Second Floor Strategy. For 15+ years she has helped organizations perform better through clearer strategy, stronger operations, practical technology, and better decisions.

Her career includes nearly a decade on a leadership team scaling operations from 25 to 175 properties, followed by five years advising 35+ organizations across the U.S., Mexico, and the Caribbean. Working alongside executives, revenue leaders, marketing teams, operations managers, and cross-functional departments, she interpreted business and customer data, found performance opportunities, improved technology adoption, guided organizational change, set meaningful benchmarks, and translated strategy into execution.

Her work was never about the software. It was about helping organizations understand what their business was telling them, and knowing what to do next.

What it's like to work together

Katterine doesn't arrive with predetermined answers. She asks thoughtful questions, listens, connects patterns, and simplifies complexity. She works alongside teams, not above them, to build practical solutions people actually understand, adopt, and keep using after the engagement ends.

Clients often describe her as someone who pairs sharp strategic thinking with genuine care, challenging them while making it safe to move forward.
